The Executive Officer (XO) serves as the Chapter's second-in-command just as on a starship and is appointed by the Commanding Officer.
The Executive Officer oversees all of the Ship's Departments and is responsible for their smooth operation. Department Heads make regular reports to the XO and turn in promotion point totals and award recommendations at the end of each quarter. The XO, in turn, tracks promotion points for the Department Heads and turns in recommendations for promotions and awards to the CO at the end of each quarter.
At any time that the Commanding Officer is absent or unavailable, the Executive Officer assumes command of the Chapter and all of its operations. Control of the ship is relinquished upon the CO's return to duty.
